My 5 cents advice: Just integrate XQuery into XForms entirely.

Any other alternative is nuts in my opinion.

I remember when XML Schema spent YEARS deciding for constraints on a  
subset of Xpath, that is so called "streamable".

I don't think ANYBODY involved in that discussion had ANY clue about   
how to execute Xpath/XQuery and/or subsets of them,
in streaming fashion. This, of course, didn't stop them talking about  
it  (, and standardizing it, in top of that, which is the worst).

So, my 6 cents advice to XForms:  beware of "subsetting" XML  
processing. Especially for "good" cause (whatever that means).

In general: don't do it.
