Hmmmmm. What's the single killer app for SQL? In both cases, I don't think there is one, in the sense that the Web is the killer app for the Internet or spreadsheets were the killer app for PCs. I think that the combination of XQuery and XML databases simply make it possible to build applications that weren't feasible before because of limitations of the relational model to represent certain kinds of data, such as documents and semi-structured data. Whether any of these is killer really depends on what business you're in. If you're an accountant, I doubt you'll be interested.
