condition of count

i need to do the following using xquery:-

let $cnd1:= $j/bookstore//book//year [text()=1998]
let $cnd2:= $j/bookstore//book//pub [text()="academy"]
i need to return the count of books that satisfy both
cnd1 and cnd2 knowing that cnd1 and cnd2 can be
supplied by the user from an external interface
