FWIW, Apple uses launchd with it's XML-based config as init
(privileged PID 0) system, but Linux devs couldn't be convinced to
rely on XML in the kernel and headed to use eg. INI files in systemd
instead. Also HL 7 (SGML era system for data exchange in health care)
is part of many medical systems and devices. It's your call if you
want to consider these systems "life-critical".
