Mike, I agree, except the standard to which you meant to refer was
called RMDM (Reference Model for Data Management). IRDS was Information
Resource Dictionary System.

IRDS certainly had this model (the editor, David Gradwell, was a close colleague of mine at ICL). I've never come across RMDM. It's entirely possible that the concept appeared in both and it would be interesting though challenging to try and find out which influenced the other.
