Depends. If you are constructing a repository from a denormalized text dump and/or disparate sources you may not want or be able to reconstruct the original.

So for Roger I'd say that I think the direction I see is more hybrid
stores (from Virtuoso to MarkLogic..) and more variation being
acceptable as people come to recognize that different needs are best
served with different technologies.

Very true but organisations in the corporate world are often not agile (I don't mean in the project management sense) enough to do that.
