The main blocker is not really about the technology, it is about the organisational change. The way people collate, prepare and produce information products can be quite different between traditional approaches and an "XML first" approach. Many publishers produce XML as a by-product of their processes, that is to say they create their products first (Word, InDesign, Framemaker) and then derive XML from their information products. (Hence the current roaring trade in conversion of INDD/PDF->EPUB via XML) If we can help bridge the gap, or provide a staged transition, between traditional processes and XML processes then I suspect we would see a higher velocity in uptake of XML technology in the publishing space. The offshore conversion vendors of PDF->EPUB are one example of bridging the gap, is there a smarter way? -Gareth
