Not a trivial one to answer briefly, but e.g. What if a novice developer decides to try to extend the XML using derivation or tries restricting it using redefine but doesn't get it quite right or forgets databases, etc might be caused problems? Derivation is problematic in simpler cases, let alone when multiple imports and namespaces are involved. ...

What code maintenance nightmares do you get from processing XML with
multiple prefixes / namespaces?
