and as I drive I also "validate" that

- I'm not running up the rear of the car in front of me
- I'm not running off the road to the right
- I'm not crossing over the center line
- I stop at stop signs
- I yield to pedestrians at cross walks
- I don't run over pedestrians that are in the road and *not* in cross  
walks
- I continue on after I've stopped at stop signs or for pedestrians
- after turning I straighten out again (as appropriate)
etc. etc.

Roger, could you characterize a little bit how you distinguish between  
"validation" as you're describing it and subtasks that are necessarily  
part of doing whatever it is you're doing?  E.g., after you do all the  
appropriate "validation", what does "driving" consist of?  It seem to  
me that, if you define a sufficiently large number of constraints, any  
activity at all can be described as "validating" that you're  
satisfying all of them.
