XHTML 5 - Time to simplify

I had a quick scan of the HTML5(XHTML5) specification.  Sometimes Specs become so tortured they need to be reworked with new simplicity and clarity.

A simpler approach could mean:

- less cross browser problems.

- more understanding for the creators of XHTML.

To do this perhaps

- deprecate the SGML serialization - no new features supported in the SGML serialization.

- rename the spec to XHTML5.

- allow modularization of SVG and MATHML in a natural Xml fashion.  If the set of external Xml vocabularies needs to be restricted then list them and their versions.

- define text/xhtml as a mimetype to be supported

What do others think about:

1. should it be reworked?

2. what are the guiding principles for reworking?
