You could try libxml, though http://www.xmlsoft.org/ Another approach might be to use XInclude, and make a single XML document that includes all the others -- a tradeoff between memory and speed. Another might be to remember which documents were valid, e.g. by creating a file to indicate validity for each, and using a tool such as "make" to validate only those files that have changed since they were last checked.
