Just lighter side notes: First, I can't stand it when OOXML is called "Open XML". That says nothing about the application and XML is already open! Second, I can't help but translate OOXML to Open Office XML, which is pretty ironic, don't you think? Does anyone else keep doing this? "OO" is pretty much common-law-trademarked for Open Office; Microsoft shouldn't have confused the market with OOXML. So if we just rename ODF to Open Office XML, we'll be all set, right? sdw Tim Bray wrote: > On 9/2/07, Len Bullard <cbullard@h...> wrote: > > A revealing point is that once one gets away from the 'bloids like > Groklaw > > or the dedicated topic bloids, this isn't being covered extensively > by the > > legitimate press. > > Mainstream: > > Microsoft puts Office Open XML format up for international vote – > Seattle P-I > Microsoft format fight with rivals to intensify – Financial Times > Microsoft pressed partners in Sweden to vote for OOXML - Washington Post > > Trade press: > > Sweden's OOXML vote declared invalid - Infoworld > Microsoft Open XML standards vote foments politics, dismay – CNET > ISO boards face OOXML deadline pressure – Inquirer (UK) > Microsoft takes off gloves in open documents battle - Computerworld > Microsoft: OOXML free from proprietary hooks - ZDNet > Microsoft's OOXML provokes standards turmoil in France - Computerworld > Microsoft employee offered incentives for OOXML support – PC World > Microsoft pressed partners in Sweden to vote for OOXML – PC World > Microsoft accused of rigging OOXML votes – PC World > Microsoft Pressed Swedish Partners to Vote for Open XML – PC World > Linux Foundation recommends ISO vote No on OOXML – The Inquirer (UK) > Microsoft's OOXML 'choice' argument squashed – Builder AY > > > The business world is largely unconcerned > > The evidence supports that statement about as much as it does the > previous > one about press obliviouslness.
