Aha... the key phrase:

When simple just isn't what the audience wants and what you offer isn't
powerful enough:  why X3D and 3D graphics ARE hard. :-)

Some gamers like Raph Koster are coming along now to claim the real-time 3D
space as laCosaNostraDeSLProCommunity.  But the fact is, the gamers have had
zero to do with 3D On The Web.  They build closed systems.  Why?  They need
speed.  Those aren't pages.  But the web 3D builders who did build the
community sites got around that and still worked inside 3D plugins for web
pages.  What did they get?  Lowered performance and less reliability.  

Why?  HTML and the Browser Wars.   Too much stuff, too many notes, too many
moving parts and few guarantees that when you deliver the very expensive
content it will actually work.

Understand our problem?  To bend to your rules, we have to commit commercial
suicide while you jabber and Raph the Kos, Clay the Shirk, Rosey Phil laugh.

Self-preservation out competes consensus.  You want a VC to pay attention,
you have to have a business plan that doesn't include technological suicide
as the exit strategy.
