They're cliches, but unfortunately remain highly relevant. I find the characterisation that I'm a doc-head working in a world of code-heads a useful sanity preserver. And by code-head, I don't just mean Java EJB monkeys or .NET Morts, note how many Web APIs now also support JSON, and PHP serialisation formats directly to satisfy the code-head's need to remain "native" and ignorant of the horror that is bloated pointy XML. For my money Relax and W3C are more similar than different. OK Relax is far less crufted by Design by Committee, but standards are agreements, and often it's who did the agreeing and how committed they are to that agreement that provides the utility way ahead of most technical details..
