While there are real XML languages on the web, there are two obstacles.  The first will evaporate; the second depends on the growth of authors given the retarding effect of the first.
 
1. Page metaphor hysteresis.  Web 2.0 is a lobster trap for innovation.  Easy is a tender trap.
 
2. The refusal of some to understand innovations in interactive designs for web content if these occur outside their comfort zone.
 
The quantum of hypermedia is the refresh rate of a screen.  Everything else is chops.

XML is not appropriate for the visible Web.  XML will continue to have limited usage on the visible Web.  As Len Bullard says, “XML is plumbing”.
