  I'm not interested in arguing SOAP vs REST. That's been done
to death. You made some statements about HTTP that I found
contradicted my experience and I asked for some clarification. 
From what I gathered from your response:

  Yes, Digest does include the URI in the hash.
  Yes, SLL is tied to the IP address of the server being accessed.

As for POE, you stated:

  got there and what the answer was.
  I'd also like to avoid message replay.""

And POE does exactly that, if you miss the reply to your POST
then do your POST again, if you get a 405 then you know that the 
first POST went through and you can do a GET on the 
same URI to get the response body.
