hi,

it seems to mean something like this :
all <a> elements which string value is not in any <x> sibling element
or this :
the difference of 2 sets {<a>} - {<x>}

<B>
    <a>1</a> this one
    <a>2</a>
    <a>1</a> this one
    <x>3</x>
    <x>4</x>
    <x>2</x>
</B>

<B>
    <a>3</a> this one
    <a>1</a>
    <a>2</a> this one
    <a>3</a> this one
    <x>5</x>
    <x>4</x>
    <x>1</x>
</B>

notice that :
a[ following::x != . ]
doesn't give the same result
