In case it can help prime the discussion more, those "new problem areas" cover (amongst *many* other things) the fact that devices in the laptop-to-server range are fast becoming a minority in a mobile Web world, and therefore some of the "many directions" in which XML is being pulled include several that at the very least mention binary XML.
