SVG 1.2 is dropping DTD support entirely, and coming with a (not 
completely finished, but getting there) RNG schema that is normative. 
There will be an XSD as well, normative too, but accompanied with a 
warning that since it cannot express the more interesting aspects of the 
document format, it is less useful.

I'm seeing RNG being use a lot where it excels: to validate document 
foramts.
