Ummmmm .... I'm still not convinced. I'm still trying to learn more of
what the advantages are of XQuery by attending your presentations and
others. I'm trying to see how to solve real-world problems with XQuery
that I'm already solving with XSLT.

What I see is that I lose the "push model" of XSLT (apply-templates) and am
stuck solely with the "pull model" in XQuery which I already have in XSLT
(value-of/for-each).

I haven't seen examples yet of mixed-content processing in XQuery (though
since I don't know if it is there or not I can't comment that is missing,
but you can't do mixed content at all easily with a pull model) and would
be lost without it for much of the work I have to do.

I don't care (much) about the syntax ... I'm a big fan of RELAX-NG's
compact syntax ... syntax is a necessary evil to get at the processing
model that is going to solve my problems (or not).

So, I'm anxious to learn more of what XQuery's advantages indeed are.
