the sort of silliness that is allowing people to chip away at the scope of
applications for which we can use XML. Any claim that says something like
"Doing x with XML." should be rejected. If "Doing x." isn't good enough to
be a claim or if "Doing x with a generic encoding format." isn't good
enough, then the claim should fail. The idea of claiming a patent on
something because you do it with XML or HTML instead of doing it with ASN.1,
XDR, CSV, etc. is ridiculous.
