Specifics, please.

What on earth do you mean by "the storage models of most XML databases" 
when you say that? What functionality causes problems here? Which 
vendors do you have in mind?

I have worked for three XML database vendors, and was on the 
architectural team for two of them. I represented two of them on the 
XQuery Working Group, at different times.

Doesn't seem like the best niche to me. Data integration scenarios are 
probably the best niche, or just plain XML reporting from various data 
sources, including at least one that is a large scale data store.
