XAML is different from other object->XML binding
frameworks because it introduces new syntax extensions
e.g. a new compound syntax, a new compact syntax, a
new binding syntax, and so on.

Marc Clifton - of MyXAML fame - argues that all this
syntax extensions aren't really needed and he has
proven the point by creating a free, open source
Microsoft XAML alternative called MyXAML that shows
how it all works out in practice. See
http://myxaml.com for details.

For example, Marc comments on Rob Relyea's blog (Rob
is Microsoft's XAML *spec* owner aka Mr. XAML):

How is it possible that the best minds at Microsoft
can be agonizing over their XAML implementation for
months and months and get so many things so wrong?
It's incomprehensible to me, when I can write
MycroXaml
(http://www.codeproject.com/dotnet/MycroXaml.asp) in
300 lines of code and four hours. It's not rocket
science, guys.

  - Gerald

PS: Rob's blog online @
http://www.longhornblogs.com/rrelyea is also a good
starting point for learning more about the XML syntax
extensions in XAML.
