I give up. Which is it? XML or not? If it's not XML then why is it called "XML Query Language"?

The XML Query grammar is neither a
superset nor a subset of the XML grammar, though there is a large intersection
between the two.
It is called an XML Query language because it is a
language for performing queries against XML
documents.
