It's certainly too early to tell but the annoucement of XBC's draft documents on this very list, known as it is for its prompt love of permathreads and opinionated discussion of this very topic, only elicited some constructive comments to the public comments list. That left a few of us on the WG scratching our heads :) Likewise, during a recent presentation I tried to outrage the audience with some over-the-top pro-binary XML positions (expecting to use the push-back to moderate them) but all I got was a dozen heads nodding and not a single shocked face. Worse, when I subsequently tried to moderate my own discourse part of the audience disagreed. Granted the audience was vastly mobile-oriented and more likely to be favourable but based on previous experiences even with a mobile crowd, that left me quite baffled. To be honest the XBC WG has been waiting for some community push-back and input on both the negatives and positives of binary XML -- especially as one big concern was that the WG would be composed solely of "pros", which thankfully isn't the case -- but so far the negatives haven't been coming and that worries me a bit. Is everyone perfectly happy and comfy with the notion of a W3C-approved binary XML format (I doubt it)? Have people given up (on the Life, the Universe, the W3C)? Does this community trust the XBC WG in its eternal (*cough*) wisdom to reach the right conclusions? Is everyone carefully noting down objections and planning to pull them all out at the last minute? -- Robin Berjon
