Some object-relational DBMS products support plug-ins for adding new types,
including different types of indexes (quadtree, r-tree, b-tree, etc.).
One of the questions was about pluggable or selectable indexing techniques for
XML documents. Michael indicated SQL Server 2005 (Yukon) will support selectable
indexing using b-trees.
