So to point of view: in Roger's case, by interation, he found he could simplify his design. Is it really the case that what was becoming simpler was not his design, but his understanding of his requirement? The essence of mastery is the perception of simple skill. The easier it looks, the more effort was required of the master. This is what is meant by the Zen saying that the master becomes the novice. In the recent article cited from Chaitin, he noted how in a hundred years, theories would emerge that would take only a few pages to describe because the terminology would evolve to the point that fewer terms are necessary and so what was once complicated to explain would be simple.
