Ask me about religion, politics, cosmology, epistemology, or any other 
subject that people have fought and died for over the centuries, but 
please not about the merits of one flavor of RSS vs another.  It's just 
too inflammatory :-)    Suffice it say that everything about your 
question is bitterly controversial -- how to measure adoption, how to 
define shortcomings, etc. etc. etc.

As I interpret http://web.resource.org/rss/1.0/process, everything 
associated with RSS 1.x is open to modification, but I'm not part of 
that community and I don't really know.
