It appears someone has developed a formula for mass production of web sites. An e-mail arrived recently saying SQLSummit.com had a high Google ranking for XML+SQL. It requested a link to an article at an XML site (YourXMLGuide.com). The cover article (http://www.yourxmlguide.com/) aroused my curiosity. The byline reads "Elise Allen" but the fourth paragraph reads "I'm a guy who took several ages to learn HTML". A Google search showed "Elise Allen" has been very busy: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22Elise+Allen%22+ArticleInsider&btnG=Google+Search This search produces about 1000+ hits. There is a long list of sites with an Elise Allen cover article -- about lingerie, Florida vacations, flash drives, property insurance, credit repair, outsourcing, Internet dating, XML, disability insurance, and so on. There seems to be a site for at least every topic for which ArticleInsider has recruited writers: http://www.articleinsider.com/start.php Using WHOIS to check domain names, I found a common IP address for the first few sites I checked. It's in a IP block assigned to "Dialtone, Inc.". There's an interesting history of usenet messages about that company: http://groups.google.com/groups?q=%22Dialtone%2C+Inc.%22&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&btnG=Google+Search Some of the featured links on those sites bring up a form requesting personal data (for example, to apply for a trucking job).
