Re: Standards for Search Systems
Yeesh! Talk about labyrinthian efforts. A quick read of the document
suggests this is a compilation, with sections provided by individuals
or working groups, that is not as cohesive as it could (or should) be-
more like a committee draft in great need of further revision.
Nonetheless it is a good start on identifying interest areas and
activities in the standards informatics sector, with regard for US
National Priorities. Clearly points to what many have said at various
times about many interest-areas and the status of efforts toward
interoperability and standardization. In my case this emphasis has
been on discussions about the lack of system-wide agency/organization
liaisons for the holistic development of interoperable heritage
informatics, e.g., there is no systematic
liaison between agencies and organizations to address establishment
of National Priorities for Human Biological and
Cultural Heritage Informatics (NPHuBCHI)), and what is needed to
accomplish that, for example, is a National
Heritage Information Clearinghouse and
Communications Infrastructure (NHICCI), not to mention the
International issues that arise- and that is truly labyrinthian.
