Yes it was.  The keypad had a way of dieing though. 
Itty bitty chiclet keys.  And it wasn't something 
one could drop too often.  Hmm. Did you look at 
the power connection closely?
 
But one had to admit that it was a real shock to 
the micro crowd at the time to see something that 
small in a black plastic box do that much.

Geez.  

Microsoft permathreads I can cope with, but the Sinclar was sheer
perverse engineering genius.  I wish my ZX81 still worked.  (I still
have it, hoping to figure out what's gone wrong.)
