Unfortunately, projects like Avalon coupled with Microsoft's pulling the plug on Internet Explorer strike me as being precisely about forcing choices to serve their interests, and that qualifies as shameful. Network effects can make life great. They can also lead to great shame. It's time for me to find a career where network effects don't force me into shame.
