RE: Who blows the whistle on Microsoft? Time to stand up
XML was designed to free us from people just like us.
It frees you from Microsoft and it frees Microsoft
from you. That is the fact. Now some will have to
decide just what they want to tighten down and what
they wish to innovate on, but dynamic clients are
going to be a fact of life whether they are XAML,
XUL, or something else. Smart product planners
will be figuring out how to recast their products
into a service-oriented architecture which means
opening up for anyone to write a client to. Smart
developers will be figuring out how the policies
of an enterprise type can be abstracted into rules
for dynamically creating clients commensurate to
the role of the user requesting a service to which
they are entitled.

The web is plumbing; not the washing machine.
Pick the model that lets you adjust the load
capacity and the hot/cold cycles according to
the clothes to be washed. The pipes are just
there.

We are past the world of generating static snapshots
of display and blasting them down to a client. Most
desktop computers you buy today have 2+Ghz CPU, >256MB
of RAM, and a massive hard disk. Use them! Make your
application be so engaging and productive for your
customers that they want to buy it.

Now if that doesn't clear up the confusion. I don't
know what does.
