I won't comment on legality. Having seen the last presidential
se-lection, the outcome of the EOLAS case, and similar SNAFUs,
I don't trust the judiciary to pick technology for me. They
couldn't even convict a celebrity murderer with overwhelming
evidence while the whole world watched.

What we have now that we never had before is an international
means of peer to peer (me to you) communication that acts like
a watchdog. Not a perfect world, but I think it a better one
as long as we don't climb into the longboats and go raiding
the lands of the Franks.

Bitter? Remember, I was the first chairman of the MID
committee and had to tell the Lockheed managers that
IETM clients were dead because HTML was going to roll
over us with inferior technology and that our SGML
vendors were anxious for it to happen. IADS survived
but it had a lot of content expertise to hold it together
and it already was an SGML browser with stylesheets when
Andreesen was trying to work out blink blink.

Am I bitter? No. I am vindicated. ;-)

And let's agree that we'll now get to see it in a couple of years
because the desktop monopoly illegally killed the competition on the
basis of the threat of it a few years ago.

Forgive my cynicism and bitterness. It must be the lack of oxygen
(someone cutting of my air supply?) that makes me forget that we truly
live in the best of all possible worlds. Double-plus-good, y'all.
