RE: Why I Like Longhorn and XAML

xaml sucks
Hi Simon,

Didier replies:
I think Simon, that the whole industry needs a wake up call. We are actually
in the dot com aftermath and our industry turned into a sleeping beauty.
Some challenge should be taken with enthusiasm. If the competition cannot
respond to what Microsoft is offering, what can we do?

Obviously, we need to move away from the "mainframe model" as offered today.
Web applications [expletive deleted]. It is time to go beyond the 3270 terminal world and
bring back some fun doing cool and _usable_ applications. I doubt that the
actual "constantly refresh your page" paradigm reached usability summits.

I guess that Sun won't sleep for too long and will offer a similar
declarative programming environment to be added to their actual framework.

Web applications as we know them are under-utilizing the browser
environment. For instance, does people use well the prototype based
programming environment of the browser? No. Does people use communication
channels between a server and a client to transfer data (ala xmlhttp in both
Mozilla and IE) No. They don't do it because the industry is jammed in the
same technology paradigm as the early days of the web. A shock treatment is
needed to wake up the patient :-) If Microsoft XAML is such shock treatment,
let's welcome it and let's hope that a sane competition will help us,
practitioner, get what we want.

The sleeping beauty slept for too long...

Cheers
