Hi Recently, I designed a language named PDML to encode a set of objects to be transported from a server to a client (i.e. an XML browser). In that language, objects are defined by types or classes and the ownership of instances is non-ambiguous. Context: -------- Yesterday, as a sequel to the recent discussions about ontology matters I tried to model instances having a fuzzy relationship to their classes. As we all know, the real world is full of examples of fuzzy logic. In fact, ownership of set members is, most of the time, a function rather than a strict in or out value. PDML is not adapted to such fuzziness since it is based on strict Boolean logic since it is based on classical set theory and not on fuzzy set theory. Before doing some more work in that direction, I wonder if recent work on the semantic net is more suited to model the real world. I had a hard time to "explicitly" model set ownership fuzziness in OWL or OIL. To say the least I failed to be able to model the real world with OWL or OIL. This is probably because I do not master these languages. Can some of the "semantic web" experts help me to resolve this issue? Issue: ------ Can I "explicitly" model set ownership when this very relationship is fuzzy and not Boolean (as it is most of the time in the real world). Cheers Didier PH Martin
