SysOnyx, Inc. has a beta tool called xmlArchitect that displays an instance
tree-view of the currently loaded Schema. It is in beta, meaning it's free
right now, but also means it's not 100% complete. Take a look, it's
currently a Windows app, though if there's enough interest, it can be ported
to Linux.
