I'll admit I haven't put much thought in this, but offhand it seems that
operations can be either type-assigned or facet assigned. In other words,
are operations applicable to facet-sets (types) or are they inherently
dependent upon each facet? 

Maybe the people who think about this for a living could kindly enlighten
the less illuminated among us.
