Hi Thomas, Thanks for the pointer about OWL versioning. Thomas said: Notice how similar this is to fuzzy classification. You have described a notion of "how well" a black cat fits the category BlackEntity - that is a fuzzy classification notion. One should be able to apply fuzzy classification methods to compute such "distances", I would think. Didier replies: Yes I think so; possibility theory (improved version of fuzzy sets) is a good candidate for a prototyped based ontology. Also, possibility theory includes a way to resolve conflicts. If I try to merge two views of the world (i.e. ontology) with OWL based on strict Boolean logic the result may be to reject both if there is a disagreement. With possibility theory the union is possible. However, it doesn't necessarily help me get the right information. Thinking more about this whole issue, I think that the problem with the semantic web won't be with ontologies used as templates to create instances (a la object programming or a la protégé) I will be with what I can do with instances and the exactness of the predicates. I can access a document stating that it is about wine and I may discover than in fact it is an offer for a commercial product with biased information. We have the problem today with "meta" tags; we will have the same problem with the semantic web. However, within certain communities, I guess that ontologies will be trustable. But, it remains that a large majority of ontology instances will be crap like it is today. The ontology could be right, the instances conformant to the ontology and still get false or biased information. The whole notion of an agent using the published instances is a nice dream for credulous people living in a marvelous world, probably not our planet :-) Now getting back to technical issues: ------------------------------------- I am trying to use a stylesheet to attach properties to classes. It not that obvious since the information is dispersed in a document. It reminds me of program full or "goto". Call for info to the members of this list: ------------------------------------------ Did anybody created a stylesheet to transform an OWL document into HTML? Something like Class: xxxxx Property name: property value ...... ...... Does anybody did that? Cheers Didier PH Martin.
