For those tracking GXA (the Global XML Web Services Architecture), a new
spec was announced today: WS-Federation [1].

Written by Microsoft, IBM, VeriSign, BEA, and RSA Security,
WS-Federation extends the WS-Trust [2] model, and defines mechanisms "to
enable identity, account, attribute, authentication, and authorization
federation across different trust realms.". An example of a use case is
where a security token (ex: X.509 certificate) from a Security Token
Service is exchanged for another security token at a second Security
Token Service - hence crossing trust realms.

Microsoft and IBM have also released today a (related) joint white paper
called "Federation of Identities in a Web services world [3].

One of the interesting aspects of these drafts is that they don't include an email address to which comments should be sent. Nor public archives of comments, as far as I can ascertain.

I guess that is a subtle way of discouraging public comment or ensuring that any comment made is not available for others to review.

Does anyone know where, for example, I can indicate to the authors that "warrantees" is a term referring to a person, not a concept as the authors seem to assume? I believe the authors wish to express the notions of "warranties". They do get it right on other occasions.

Also, what is the status of these documents? They seem to be free-floating (i.e. outwith any standards organisation process). Is that accurate? Whether or not that is desirable is a separate issue.
