In case anyone doesn't know, there is an xml-technology specific newsgroup:
comp.text.xml. It seems of real use to people who are, e.g., having trouble
using XML Schema or DTDs, and the "Is XML a bagel or a database?" kind of
question  usually draws a constructive response.
