Hmm ... be careful what you wish for. The fact that OASIS as an organization doesn't really care about xml-dev means that they don't care what transpires on xml-dev. There's no pressure for moderation, or centralized definitions of what constitutes "spam" or "acceptable use," nothing other than the list's culture to define what is "politically correct." Do we really want to spend time worrying about who will have the power that comes with responsibility for list administration in a world where the people involved DO care about what goes on? Hypothetically, if the list becomes managed by volunteers, what happens when they burn out, or get disgusted by the haiku, limericks, permathreads, etc. and flee, or whatever? Instead of a private email to Karl Best when problems occur, it will become an Issue that we all have to see in our inboxes. I'm not sure ... I agree that there are problems that can probably be explained by the fact that xml-dev is not mission critical for OASIS, and that these need to be fixed, but let's make very sure that we don't introduce a bunch of new "bugs" when fixing the list administration problems.
