Bah. Tim's post seems to be a rehash of the XML-DEV discussion from a month or two ago. The only new data point seems to be that he is admitting that the mechanisms for processing XML in contemporary programming environments is less than satisfying. 
 
As for Micah's post, I'm not sure what his conclusion has to do with Tim's post. All we need is xml:id and everything will be OK? Huh?

This isn't a new thread - sorry - but this time the claim comes from an
unusual source, that infamous XML-critic Tim Bray:

It's a page or two of reading, most of which reminds me that markup and
programming are two different universes which both happen to involve
computers.  Definitely worth reading.
