Title: RE: If XML is too hard for a programmer, perhaps he'd be better off as a crossing guard i18n? I had to laugh. :-) Right above the section that explains how XML has forced people to learn i18n issues and start doing the right thing, is the simile "in the same spirit that Sammy Sosa addresses a fastball". I'm guessing that "fastball" makes this a baseball reference, and therefore Sammy Sosa is a baseball player, but as to how he addresses a fastball (throws it, hits it, catches it, or puts a stamp on it and sends it to his mother), I have no idea. Presumably this is an American reference. I realise than in the USA, not everyone follows baseball, and therefore not everyone would know who Sammy Sosa is, but can we please have some more international similes so the rest of us at least have a chance? :-) (After reading the article, I still have no idea how Sammy Sosa addresses a fastball, not that I'm interested.)
