I'm not sure that "outweighed" is a safe point to argue from over the long term. The cost of changes to XML 1.0 might be a better place, but even that cost/benefit seems likely to turn. I've long hoped that the WS people would fork away from XML and leave markup folks to do their own cleanup without the pressure of the WS folks around. I can't see that happening at the moment, and continue to worry that the weight will shift.
