| information. While I hate to admit this in a reply to Norm Walsh, I'm
| hoping the XML features in Word 11 that MSFT was showing off at XML 2003
| will be a part of that, since I also have a huge chasm between DocBook
| and Word that needs bridging.

I'm not sure what part you hate to admit. But in the spirit of sharing :-),
I'll admit that Jean's presentation left me with the gloomy thought
that this was an app that might drive me back to the Windows platform.

If I can edit a DocBook document in Emacs, toss it into Word without
thought, mail it to a collaborator (with the caveat that the
collaborator neither knows nor cares what DocBook is and just "does
what they want" in Word subject to the constraints that Word enforces
and assuming that they are comfortable enough with the way these
constraints are presented in Word to be content editing that way), get
back the collaborator's edited document, turn it trivially back into
valid DocBook XML, and continue editing in Emacs, I'll cave.

I guess that's the price for my soul. Part of me really hopes it's too
expensive. I'll be astounded, and impressed beyond my ability to
easily express in words, if it actually works that way and that well.

                                        Be seeing you,
                                          norm
