so do you feel that XPath or the data model it relies on compromises full
adherence to XML?

also, i think you forgot to tell us why or how data centricity/direct
access threatens to snatch XML, or parts thererof, away from us.
data models might not be your preferred flavour of XML, still doesn't mean
they're not useful. unless it's XML itself that is being subverted by such
views there's little threat to talk about, only a different solution space.
or maybe you just want more limelight on other parts of the stage?
