someone recently pointed out the difference between a standard and a
specification - i'd like to add that acceptance as a standard requires
more than a couple of implementations.

'specifications are getting implemented before they are even written'...

or at least before they are completed. which is congruent with how things
should be, imo.

the problem with web services is the hype, which is what is pushing
half-baked implementations of half-finished specs out of the doors of
otherwise respectable companies, who are trying to sell them as production
ready tools to a market that hasn't made up it's mind about what it wants
yet.
