actually it wouldn't be much of a problem anyway, a new unicode release
obviously brings in some new names, you'd just have to live with the
fact that some names pointed at the same char.
eg
GREEK PHI SYMBOL and GREEK SMALL LETTER SCRIPT PHI are Uniocde 3 and 2
names for U03D5

Yes as I said in my initial comment to Paul's suggestion it is something
that could form the basis a workable proposal if the XML activity was
ever going to acknowledge that there might be any issue at all.

ug:-) I think I'd rather have the name lowercased and _ as in
&lowercase_phi;
however no point tinkering with the details at this stage...
