I concur with Norm and Mike Kay. Is there anywhere in the XQuery family of specs where there is some implied difference between the terms element and element node? -----Original Message----- From: Norman Walsh [mailto:ndw@n...] Sent: Mon 10/21/2002 10:00 AM To: xml-dev@l... And is an "element" a synonym | of an "element node"? I don't think I understand your confusion. The functions and operators in question operate over a data model composed of "items". Item is used as a general term to mean a node or a (typed or untyped) simple value. In the context of the data model and element is an element node.
